The History of the Upper-Room Ministry

In 2000 at the old Project Motivational Math, Inc. building, a bold but dedicated group of individuals got together at 313 Williams Street in Tallahassee, Florida and developed a Church Mission group.  A name was needed for this unique group and through prayer and careful study they came up with a more fitting name.  The mission group was located on the second floor of an office complex and to its surprise, did not have an elevator. Therefore, everyone had to climb the staircase.  The Lord inspired one of the leaders by the name of Daisy Cousins to come up with a name entitled, “The Upper-room Outreach Ministry”.   All members endorsed the name and as a result a Mission was formed.   The Upper-room Outreach Ministry would meet every week and its main purpose was to perform Bible Studies, visit the sick and shut in, have health seminars, minister to the needs of others, evangelistic crusades and the like.

The mission group was such a unique group until most members would meet on Sabbath afternoon and have lunch together and plan how they would start their evangelistic work for that day and the remainder of the week.  After two plus successful years of operation at the present location, in December of 2002 the Upper-room Outreach Ministry moved to 535-A&B Silver Slipper Lane near the Tallahassee Mall.  The members and officers realized the importance of having a ground level facility for the elderly and for the safety of the children without having the stairs. The Lord really blessed their efforts and the cohesive unit that He placed together.  The group went on many camping retreats that where second to none.  On these camp outs, they found themselves coming together as one big happy family who depended on the Lord and each other.  Many of the members did not want to return from the mountain top experiences from their encounter with the Lord and with the newly founded family.

Many souls were baptized through the Upper-room Outreach Ministry.  Pastor George Worrell of the Nazareth SDA Church of Live Oak, Florida would perform these ceremonies.  Elder Willie Walker was the head elder and the Lord used him with a mild manner but strong approach of directing His troops in the field.  In 2003, the group was blessed with Evangelist Marlon Ricketts from Portland, Jamaica who came in with inspiring messages as he led out with an evangelistic thrust and the radio ministry nearly every Sabbath.  The group made many visits to dark counties and visited many homes on casual basics for prayer, Bible study and personal needs.  The main area of consecration was the Monticello area in Jefferson County, Florida.  Many souls have been and still are being blessed by the Upper-room Outreach Ministry.  Quotes have been made by many of its members that, “We got a taste of what Heaven would be like, with the Upper-room Outreach Ministry, and there is no place like the Upper-room”.  Praise God!
